Text: Hebrews 9:27
Introduction:
July 1, 1961: Lady Diana Frances Spencer is born, the daughter of the 8th Earl Spencer.
I. WHAT DOES THE WORLD HAVE TO OFFER
RESTORATIONISM: This is the belief that in a future life all men will be given a second chance to make the choice for God that they did not make during this life.
MATERIALISM: This is the belief that man, upon death, forever ceases to exist, and quietly rots into nothingness.
ANNIHILATIONISM: This theory, espoused by many Jehovah's Witnesses, teaches that all the ungodly will someday be "uncreated" or annihilated by God.
PURGATORY: This is the belief of the Roman Catholic based on 2 Maccabees 12:39-45, a book in the Apocrypha, that all those who die at peace with the Church but are not perfect must undergo penal and purifying sufferings. However, this is only for those who die in venial (lesser) sin, for all dying in mortal sin are forever condemned to hell. Roman doctrine teaches that a person's stay in purgatory may be shortened by the gifts or services rendered by living people in behalf of the beloved dead on through the Roman Catholic Church.
REINCARNATION: The belief in the transmigration or rebirth of the soul that had been fundamental to most religions and philosophies of India. As one sows in the present life, so one shall reap in the next, good deeds resulting in a good state of rebirth, bad deeds resulting in a bad state of rebirth. Thus a man's state of life is seen not a something meaningless, but as working out, for good or ill, the effects of a previous existence and the predetermining of a future state.
If this is all there is then we ought to live it up. Eat, Drink by Merry for tomorrow you may die. Go for all the gusto, You only go around once!
Is that all there is to life?
Let us look and see what the Bible says.
For those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, the grave is not their home.
Burt Olney was a skeptic. When a young minister was called to a local church, Burt attended just for criticizing and arguing with the new Pastor. After the sermon he said to the man of God: "You did well, but you know, I don't believe the Bible is true!" "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.," the young Pastor responded.
"I can prove to you that there is no such thing as judgment after death," declared the skeptic. ."But men do die," the young Pastor calmly continued. "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment."
But that is no argument," the skeptic protested, "Let's get down to business and discuss this matter in regular argument form." The young Pastor shook his head, "I am here to preach the Word of God, not to argue over it."
Burt Olney was greatly annoyed and turned away with the remark, "I don't believe you know enough about your Bible to argue it anyway." "Perhaps you are right," was the calm reply, but just remember this sir, It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment."
Burt Olney left for home but the very tree toads along the way seemed to sing that awful verse in his ears. The stream he crossed and the frogs in the pond seemed to croak, "Judge-ment, Judge-ment!"
The next morning, Burt called the parsonage. "I have come to see you about that verse of Scripture you gave me last night. I have had a terrible time since then. These words have burned their way into my heart. Tell me, what must I do to be saved? I've got to get rid of this torture." The Scripture was opened to him and Burt Olney, through faith in the finished work of Christ became a new creature.
For the Christian, Death means going to a place prepared by God for them.
John 14:2-3 "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
There is a place that God has prepared for His Children called heaven.
Paul says that the moment that we draw our last fleeting breath here on Earth, the next instant we are with Jesus.
2 Corinthians 5:8 "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."
And where is Jesus? At the Right Hand of God, in Heaven!
What is Heaven like?
HEAVEN IS A PLACE OF PERFECT HOLINESS.
Revelation 21:27 "And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life."
Heaven is a prepared place for prepared people. Only those who have been Saved by the Lord Jesus Christ will be there!
HEAVEN IS A PLACE OF PERFECT HEALTH.
Revelation 21:4 "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
There will be no more colds, no more fever, no more pains, and no more hospitals. There will be no more headaches, side aches, backaches, or heartaches. Each and everyone will be forever young and vigorous.
HEAVEN IS A PLACE WERE GOOD-BYE WILL NEVER BE HEARD.
No one likes to be parted from a loved one. Separation from a loved on is what cause us to be sad when death removes that loved one from us.
However, there is one word that will never be heard in Heaven. GOOD-BYE
For those who have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, there will be and Eternal Reunion forever more.
After death, what? After death, to the Christian, is a glorious life, incomparably beautiful and precious, with Jesus our Lord in heaven.
A mother was hanging us wash in the yard when her little girl was playing on the grass. Suddenly the child jumped to her feet crying, "Mamma, Mamma, a wasp! a wasp!" The mother commanded the little girl to run to her arms and the little girl did just that and all was still for a moment. The mother quietly assured her daughter that all was well. "The wasp will not sting you now." "Why?" asked the little girl. "Look" said the mother, showing her arm, "I have taken the sting for you."
As Children of God, we can echo the sentiments of Paul as he wrote:
Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
The death of a person who is prepared to meet Jesus Christ is a cause for celebration. They are going on to be with Jesus.
However, for the lost man, death is to be feared. His eternal destination is not heaven, but is a place of eternal torment. A place called Hell. A Place that can be avoided by placing their faith and trust in Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior.
But the question is are you Prepared to meet Jesus Christ? That is a question that I do not know the answer to about Princess Diana. If she had at some point in life, invited Jesus Christ to come into her life and forgive her of her sins, then right now she is in Heaven. Not because she was good, beautiful, philanthropic, but only because she had accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.
However, if Princess Diana had not accepted Jesus Christ, then she is eternally separated from Jesus Christ. She will never know an instant of peace. She will spend an eternity is torment.
Princess Diana’s fate has been sealed. There is no second chance. However, it is not too late for you. If you were to loose your life today in an automobile accident, where would you spend your eternity? Have you invited Christ into your life? It is not too late.
