Text: Proverbs 1:8 "My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:"
Introduction: Dr. Carl Henry - “One child lost to the faith usually becomes a family lost to the faith, and not many generations later a whole community of un-believers is set in motion because of some earlier neglect of parental duties.”
God has entrusted to mothers the most precious gift's of God's creation - children. Motherhood It is the highest & noblest of callings. The little lives within the sphere of your influence will reflect your virtue and your character!
They need to be nurtured, protected, guided, and pointed to Jesus Christ RIGHT NOW!
Mark 10:13-16 “And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.”
God knows and cares about the great calling and ministry you have. The mothers of the Bible show by their lives that God makes special provision for the special needs of mothers.
Let's look at some special Mother's in the Bible.
I. EVE (Genesis 3&4) GOD'S POWER TO DEFEAT SATAN.
Motherhood for Eve must have been a frightening thing - no one had every been a mother before! She and Adam had just lost everything because of sin. . . .
With God's Curse (death) Came Also A Promise of A Deliverer - I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Genesis 3:15
What God is saying is a child born of eve would become the deliverer of the human race. This deliverer has come in the person of Jesus Christ!
God's Power To Defeat Satan Is Reflected In Her HOPE For Her Children. This HOPE was in the heart of Eve as a result of the promise of God.
So the first mother on earth, had as her greatest hope, that her child would defeat Satan.
She was a woman aware of the existence and significance of spiritual warfare.
How much less, should mother's today, have a similar awareness and hope that their children would grow up to reject and defeat Satan.
II. JOCHEBED (Exodus 1&2) GOD'S POWER TO OVERRULE CIRCUMSTANCE. Jochebed, the mother Moses, became a mother during a time of create trial and sorrow. God has a purpose and plan for every child.
In Exodus 1:16 Pharoah said to the midwifes,.. "When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live." But Jochebed Trusted & Feared God and hid Moses for three months.
Insight Into The Heart of Jochebed - By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment. Hebrews 11:23
1. It was an act of faith that God would be able to overrule circumstances.
2. Her reverence for God was greater than her fear of man.
How God Overruled:
1. Jochebed was able to see her son live.
2. Her son received the best education.
3. God made it possible for Jochebed’s influence to remain strong in his
life.
4. The fear of Pharaoh (that he would be overthrown) was raised in his
own palace.
III. BATHSHEBA (2 Samuel 11) GOD'S POWER TO CHANGE A LIFE. Bathsheba’s story is a sordid one. David & Bathsheba’s first child died, but God gave them another - Solomon.
Listen To These Words From God - "And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him." 2 Samuel 12:24
God's Power To Change A Life Is Seen In How God Is Able To Forgive Great Sin - Psalm 51
God's Power To Change A Life Is Seen In How God Is Able To Change Us - Proverbs 31.
Lemuel means “unto
God.” This is probably Soloman’s mothers pet name for him.
This passage is a collection of the advice he received from his mother.
