“Five Things Jesus Left the Church”

By Rev. Kevin Burden

Text:  Acts 1:1-11

Jesus Took Some Things With Him Back To Heaven:

The Blood of Atonement - Hebrews 9:19-24 For when Moses had spoken ever precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, 20 Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you. 21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry. 22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. 23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

Those Persons Previously Captive To Sin - Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. Ephesians 4:8

He Also Left Us A Great Work To Carry On Until He Comes Again..

I. UNTIL HE COMES AGAIN HE HAS GIVEN US AN UNFINSHED TASK - (v 1-2)

The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

Isaiah 6:9-12 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. 10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed. 11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate, 12 And the LORD have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land.

    A.  It Will Be Unfinished Until We're Gone -

Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

    B.  It Will Be Unfinished Even After We're Gone -

Revelation 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

II. UNTIL HE COMES AGAIN HE HAS GIVEN US AN UNALTERABLE MESSAGE - (v 3)

To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible  proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

    A. The Deity of Christ;

    B. The Resurrection;

    C. The Inspiration of Scripture;

    D. The Miracles of Old;

        1.  Salvation by grace;
        2.  The Blood of Atonement

III. UNTIL HE COMES AGAIN HE HAS GIVEN US UNLIMITED POWER - (v 8).

Paul Stated - Romans 15:19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

IV. UNTIL HE COMES AGAIN HE HAS GIVEN US AN UNSHAKEALBE TESTIMONY - (v 6-8).

John 17:6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

John 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Acts 4:29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,

V. UNTIL HE COMES AGAIN HE HAS GIVEN US AN UNFAILING PROMISE - (v 6-7, 11).

Luke 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
