Title: No Desicrepancies
In 1874 the Scriptures were under severe attack by critics, and John W. Haley published a defense entitled Alleged Discrepancies of the Bible. In the preface he wrote, "Finally, let it be remembered that the Bible is neither dependent upon nor affected by the success or failure of my book. Whatever may become of the latter, whatever may be the verdict passed upon it by an intelligent public, the Bible will stand. In the ages yet to be, when its present assailants and defenders are moldering in the dust, and when our very names are forgotten, (God's Word) will be, as it has been during the centuries past, the guide and solace of millions." How true!

Title: When the Star Falls
Scientists at the Goddard Space Flight Center report that one of the largest stars in our galaxy is about to self-destruct. Eta Carinae, which has a mass 100 times greater than that of our sun, is giving signs that its life is about over. Researchers say that it could become a supernova -- a blazing, exploding star -- within the next 10,000 years. What was especially interesting about the Science 82 report was the statement that since light from the star could take 9,000 years to reach the earth, the actual explosion could have already taken place.
This striking fact reminds me of the nature of biblical prophecy. For example, the predictions found in Revelation 8 are often written in the past tense. This is done because even though the prophet is writing of a future event, he has already "seen" it. Also, in the mind of God it's as if the events have already happened. (Rev. 8:10)

Title: Drowning in Two Inches of Water?
Some critics have said that at the north end of the Red Sea there is an area called Bitter Lakes. Between the Bitter Lakes and the Red Sea there was a marshy connection two to three inches deep. They say a southeast wind blew up the channel holding the water in the Bitter Lakes, while the tide ebbed away in the Red Sea. So the children of Israel waded through the marshy area.
Now that's a weak explanation. Listen, if the children of Israel walked across a shallow marshy area, how did the well-trained Egyptian army drown in two inches of water? That would have to be a miracle! No, the strong east wind that walled up the waters on both sides was the breath of God. It was a miracle. If you believe in God, let Him reveal Himself.

Title: Spurgeon on the Bible
"This is the book untainted by any error, but is pure, unalloyed, perfect truth. Why? Because God wrote it. Ah! charge God with error if ye please; tell Him that His book is not what it ought to be. ... I have heard men in prayer, instead of saying, 'Make your calling and election sure,' say, 'Make your calling and salvation sure.' Pity they were not born when God lived, far, -- far back, that they might have taught God how to write. Oh, impudence beyond all bounds! Oh, full-blown self-conceit! To attempt to dictate to the ALL-wise, --- to tech the Omniscient and instruct the Eternal! Strange that there should be men so vile as to use the penknife of Jehoikim, to cut passages of the Word because they are unpalatable. Oh, ye who dislike certain portions of the Holy Writ, rest assured that your taste is corrupt, and that God will not stay for your little opinion. ... Oh, let us bend in reverence before it, for God inspired it. It is pure truth.
